First Attempt - Birthday Cake for Amy
Dec 18, 2011
This is my first attempt at cake decorating. I offered my friend, Amy to make a cake for her birthday. I learnt that she likes this particular monkey so much (not sure what the name of the monkey is). I started to ask for a picture of the monkey, and her boyfriend sent it to me. I tried to practise what I learnt so far, how to copy a picture to a cake, and some of the basic piping methods that I learnt in class. The cake turned out as a surprise. She didn't expect to see her favourite monkey on her bday cake. Everyone loved it and I got a compliments from the waitresses/waiters. Since it's a big cake, my friend gave 1/4 of the cake to them since they are being so nice in accomodating all her friends on her special day.
The cake itself is made of chocolate and coffee, my favourite so far for a birthday cake. The icing is made from creme cheese. It's very smooth and creemy, just love it! I don't use buttercreme frosting as I don't really like the taste of it, not a big fan of using shortening in icing as well. The cake has 3 layers and has creme cheese icing in between layers. It turns out great considering it's my real first attempt, which I care mostly about the presentation as well as the taste :)
